Care, work-life balance and co-responsibility after a year locked up at home

The conversation will include Laura Baena, head and founder of the Malasmadre Clubs and Carolina Elias, president of SEDOAC. Laura Baena has stood out for talking about the contradictions involved in being a mother in the 21st century, and the guilt that many of us live with for not being able to do everything. She also spoke loud and clear about the need to reconcile work and to share out the tasks in the home in order to put an end to this feeling of guilt.

Carolina Elias is a spokesperson for the domestic workers' organisation, Servicio Doméstico Activo, an organisation made up mainly of migrant women, which has been calling on the Spanish government for years to ratify the ILO Convention 189 for domestic employment and to equalise the rights of domestic workers with those of other workers.

With these two incredible women we want to talk about the difficulties of combining parenting and professional life in the midst of the pandemic, about how the new measures for reconciliation, such as equal and non-transferable leave, are being considered, but also about on whom we are relegating care tasks and under what conditions.

What is clear is that care is not well distributed, that under the current system we are creating inequalities and injustices among women, and that an alliance with migrant women to highlight care work and demand rights and recognition is key to achieving change.Join the conversation and be part of the change!
