With your donation, you will receive a copy of The Messenger Witch of Bocana de Paiwas and strengthen protection, healing and collective care networks for women defenders at risk and their communities.
The Messenger Witch of Bocana de Paiwas is the autobiographical story of Jamileth, a Nicaraguan woman, indigenous, peasant, feminist and migrant. A testimony of racism and precariousness, but also of networks, spirituality and collective strength.
Her memory is a reflection of that of many. Between 2012 and 2025, the Mesoamerican Initiative of Women Human Rights Defenders (Iniciativa Mesoamericana de Mujeres Defensoras de Derechos Humanos) registered 54,395 aggressions against women human rights defenders in Central America.
The erosion of democracy, militarization and violence against activists in the region is not an isolated phenomenon: it is part of a global wave that restricts rights.
Against this backdrop, LBTQI+ women and communities organize with courage and creativity to protect life and defend their territories.
This campaign exists to accompany them.
Calala redistributes resources to those who generally do not have access to other sources of income.
We know that organizations led by LBTIQ+ women and LBTIQ+ individuals are the ones who know their contexts and needs best and organize themselves to propose solutions based on that experience. We provide them with economic resources, we offer accompaniment and promote meeting spaces that are strategic to the sustainability of their organizations.
Your donation money will go directly to those who need it most.
We give priority to organizations of migrant and refugee women, youth, indigenous, Afro-descendant, domestic and care workers, people with disabilities and LBTIQ+ people.
