Calala together with the Mediterranean Women's Fund, the Ecumenical Women's Initiative, published a study analysing the challenges and needs of feminist and women's civil society organisations in Southern and Eastern Europe.

The study

The study analyses the context in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Spain. It identifies the challenges faced by women's CSOs and their needs to prevent and combat gender-based violence.

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a widespread phenomenon that is on an upward trend. Civil society organisations (CSOs), in particular feminist and women's CSOs, play a key role in combating this violence and in accompanying and supporting survivors.

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a widespread phenomenon that is on an upward trend. Civil society organisations (CSOs), in particular feminist and women's CSOs, play a key role in combating this violence and in accompanying and supporting survivors. However, in the current climate, one of the main challenges is to secure access to funding streams that allow them to continue to function.

Therefore, the Mediterranean Women's Fund, the Ecumenical Women's Initiative y Calala Women’s Fund have led the research and elaboration of 12 fact sheets analysing the needs of feminist and women's CSOs in their struggle for a life free of gender-based violence, with special emphasis on the lack of funding. The study was carried out by Indera SL.

The sheets, which are available at English in this article explain the country-specific legal and policy context of gender-based violence, provide statistics on its prevalence and incidence, and identify the main challenges and needs of civil society organisations. The research was conducted through a literature review and interviews with 27 CSO representatives.
