We celebrate the publication in eldiario.es with some of our reflections on the leaderships we want to build, together with the migrant women's collectives we support in Spain
Through a participatory process, the migrant and racialised women that we support through our programme Migrant Power, They told us in which areas they wanted to deepen their knowledge. Since last year, we have been working with them to strengthen their capacities in the areas of leadership, access to resources and self-care and collective care.
Our Programme Manager in Barcelona, Paula Riedemann, has accompanied the process of the Leadership group from her own identity as a migrant woman and has shared with us some of her learnings, which are included in a more extensive report that can be consulted here. here:
- To address the systemic precariousness and violence that have deepened with the pandemic, it is clear that new approaches to power management in feminist terms.
- From the migrant experience, the leaderships we want to build are horizontal, synergetic, inclusive and diverse. Collective leadership that identifies and seeks to solve individual and group needs, making room for the management of the POWER SHARING. It is essential that multiple spaces of voice are recognised, adopting a decolonial perspective of recognising and valuing the knowledge and capacities of each person.
- Building such leadership is a challenge and, as such, a challenge for the continuous learning process which is no stranger to conflict. But we are learning the value of dissent and the importance of managing it empathetically, assertively and honestly as part of the process of collective growth.
- As a Women's Fund, our work is to support groups and organisations so that they can continue to build anti-racist, empathetic and diverse leaderships, We are sure that they will be key to getting ahead in the post-pandemic world that lies ahead.
