Taking care of ourselves in everyday life, in adversity, and especially in times of pandemic.

calala pandemic
The current COVID-19 emergency situation forces us to stop and reflect on care. In Calala we are taking steps to take care of ourselves and to make sure that this difficult situation passes as quickly as possible.

In Calala we are taking steps to take care of ourselves and to make this difficult situation pass as quickly as possible. We are confident that together we care for each other and that we will emerge stronger from this situation.

This is a situation many of us have never been in before and it inevitably has an impact on our mental, physical and emotional health.

Internally, in Calala we already had a clear vision of taking care of ourselves as a team; and although we have only recently institutionalised collective care, we believe that we are already on that path of continuous learning. However, we are aware that all these measures we have implemented are possible because of the privileged position we are in. In view of this, we hope that our situation will also serve to support those colleagues who need it.

Thus, colleagues from Madrid, Euskadi and Cataluña work at home thanks to a secure server and tools that allow us to work in a network. This was a clear commitment to improving our digital security as part of the integral feminist protection process.

This collective care goes beyond ourselves.

Beyond the technological, among ourselves we commit ourselves to help, to understand and to support our fellow women. who: have children in their care; are a risk group; do not have internet at home; have anxiety; are in the process of formulating projects...

Nor do we forget the groups we support, whose activities have been postponed; the allies whose economic activity has been halted; the collectives of migrant, racialised, precarious, undocumented women, domestic and care workers, sex workers... for whom this context accentuates inequalities even more; and that have been the first to make us realise the importance of care in our societies. And we condemn all the racist attacks that have taken place since the declaration of the state of emergency.

Let's occupy the digital spaces and be vigilant.

In these times we must continue to weave a network from our spaces, connecting and taking care of each other. From Calala we want to continue to strengthen this community, and to we are working to offer some digital meeting space, as well as sharing self-care resources with you. to keep us strong, with peace of mind and spiritual peace in the face of this adversity.

But let's not deny it, we are scared and worried, the health crisis will affect impoverished people and the economic crisis that is coming will affect the usual people (women, migrants, people with precarious contracts and low wages). We need social and economic measures to stop them. Social movements have recipes, and great lessons to be learned In the wake of the crisis that we have already experienced, the government and the other administrations must put them into practice.

And, while accepting for the time being the measures promoted by the central government, We will remain vigilant in their implementation and updating to ensure that they comply with human rights, and do not take advantage of the situation to the detriment of freedoms.

A big digital hug and we keep in touch and organised.
