This #8M free, diverse and borderless, see you in the streets!

calala 8 March
This 8M 2020, the mobilisation will be big, there is no doubt about that. We have just come from two successful years, and this year will be no less successful. It is true that for the first time we are facing an 8M that falls on a Sunday. This has forced us to stop and think (it was also necessary) what impact it will have and how we are going to act. To the point of questioning the effectiveness of a labour strike on a Sunday.

Our strength comes not from recognising that we are the same, but from embracing that we are different. And that, in the face of the advance of fundamentalism and the extreme right, our response will be one of unity.

This 8M 2020, the mobilisation will be big, there is no doubt about it.

We are coming from two successful years, and this year will be no less successful. It is true that we are facing for the first time an 8M that falls on a Sunday. This has forced us to stop and think (as was also necessary) about what impact it will have and how we are going to act. To the point of questioning the effectiveness of a labour strike on a Sunday.

Calala applauds the fact that some communities such as Catalonia have also maintained the call. Historically, This is how the mobilisation of 8M came about, in the face of the denunciation of the precariousness of women's work.. Today it would be illusory to think that it no longer exists. Let us not lose sight of all the precarious, migrant, racialised and undocumented women who work weekends and holidays.

It is now our responsibility to show this society, which is forced to look at us on this date, how to feminisms care for life in a cross-cutting way protecting freedom, diversity, bodily autonomy, human rights, land and territories through horizontal and equitable relations.

Recognising and honouring the genealogy of feminist struggles from which we come

We celebrate how our different voices are increasingly occupying the media space. How they share the different contexts they come from and force us to reflect on our comfortable everyday lives that are incompatible with a dignified life for all people and with the limits of the planet. This privileged way of life continues to push these diverse voices to the margins.

We must show that our strength comes not from recognising that we are the same but from embracing that we are different. For us, this means recognise and honour the genealogy of feminist struggles from which we come. It also involves accompaniment and care, and not a crushing, towards those who work in this process of unlearning and who question their privileges in order to share (or leave) the stage.

In Calala, we are trying to build a diverse team, which is forcing us to review our power relations, a process that is not always pleasant (but necessary) because you have to break yourself into a thousand little pieces and then put yourself back together again. And, above all, to put care and healing as a path that contains us and allows us to question ourselves.

This #8M we take to the streets strengthened by our differences

So, this 8M we take to the streets strengthened by our differences. Convinced that we have more than enough reasons to go out and demonstrate, In the face of the advance of fundamentalism and the extreme right, our response must be one of unity.

We, this 8M and every day, We will continue to embrace migrant, racialised, lesbian, trans, white, diverse, functional, domestic and care workers, sex workers....

We will continue to accompany our sisters in Central America for the freedom to decide about their bodies., through the decriminalisation of abortion; the protection and care of women human rights defenders and territory; comprehensive feminist protection strategies; access to sex education and contraceptives; the wisdom and contributions of indigenous women....

Free, diverse and without borders, see you in the streets
