How to respond to anti-rights discourses?

In a context marked by the rise of authoritarian movements that seek to halt advances in rights through dynamics such as hate speech and communicative polarisation, this publication offers resources for those of us who refuse to normalise the targeting of minorities and the movement to undermine rights.

Tools to confront anti-rights discourses is the result of a process driven by Calala Women’s Fund y On The Right Track, and which has been developed in collaboration with various organisations. It does not aim to offer universal recipes or to present itself as an exhaustive guide, but rather to propose different tools from linguistics, anthropology, transformative communication and the experience of social movements.

The document is structured in five parts: the first analyses why anti-rights discourses have managed to penetrate public debate; the second offers keys to understanding how communicative processes operate; the third presents proposals for constructing narratives capable of reaching new audiences without reinforcing non-emancipatory frames; the fourth deals with strategies for confronting hate speech; and the last suggests resources inspired by storytelling and subversive communication to make our messages more powerful and connecting.

A reading designed for those who seek to influence the public conversation without ceding ground in their demands. We hope you find it useful and that it contributes to collectively advance the fight against anti-rights.
