Women face gender-based violence in all spheres of our lives.

Next Thursday (18 Feb.) at 12:00 noon (CET), Ana Muñoz, sociologist and activist from For You Woman, a group we support in Valencia, and Carolay Alvarado, Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Outreach Worker from MamiSalva, will discuss the multiple forms of violence against women from a feminist and anti-racist perspective.

Women face male violence in all spheres of our lives, in private spaces (at home, at work, at school), and in public spaces (in the street, at parties, in the media, etc.). Moreover, macho violence intersects with other variables of oppression, aggravating them. What they have in common is that all violence is inflicted on the bodies of women and girls; of migrant women and girls; of women and girls with functional diversity; of lesbian and transgender women and girls.

Let's talk about the limitations to decide about one's own body., such as the ban on abortion or the repression of transgender people. Let's talk about obstetric violence that takes away all agency in our transit through maternity wards. Let's talk about violence against girls. Let's talk about sexist education in schools, abusive relationships between teenagers, immigration laws that make women dependent on the head of the family.... Join the conversation and be part of the change!

This will be the second conversation of the trilogy that we have organised with Mammaproof, in the framework of our campaign “Long live my feminism!. The first care conversation of this trilogy filled us with energy and a desire to continue meeting and reflecting together. You can see it here.

After a year where the pandemic has overwhelmed life, We believe it is necessary to reflect on how we are and how we organise ourselves in the face of the multiple forms of violence against women, from a feminist and anti-racist perspective. To this end, we want feminist activists from the groups we support and opinion leaders to continue the conversation.

The last conversation will be on 3 March at 12:00 (CET), where Sara Cuentas, of the Migration, Gender and Development Network, migrant women's group that we support in Barcelona, and Gemma Fillol, CEO of Extraordinary,  will discuss power and privilege.
