We launched the "Long Live My Feminism" campaign to celebrate the feminism we live and practice every day, paying tribute to the networks of women who continue to sustain life in the midst of the pandemic.

Say it out loud: Long live my feminism!

Since 2010 defending feminisms

Our tenth anniversary year coincided with the year of the pandemic, but we at Calala did not want to forget to celebrate that we have been funding and accompanying women's groups for 10 years.. «Viva mi feminismo» is a tribute to ourselves, to the feminism that we practice every day, and that together we build diverse feminisms and strong networks of care.

We want to honour those people and organisations who, in difficult situations, have continued to stand up for rights and care for those who are struggling to survive this pandemic. We want to raise funds to continue supporting women's and feminist groups in Central America and Spain.

COVID-19 has highlighted the serious care crisis we are living through.

8 March 2020 inaugurated a year of crisis, restrictions and mutual support. The main demonstration of the defence of women's rights came to be seen as the main cause of the pandemic overflowing in the Spanish state. If defending human rights is a virus, may we spread it.

The crisis provoked by COVID-19, the months of confinement and this new “normality” with resurgences, have overwhelmed a care system that was already greatly deteriorated. Public health care cut back; privatised and run as a business; domestic and care workers without the right to unemployment because they work without a contract; undocumented migrants without the right to social benefits, and unable to regularise their situation due to collapsed immigration services; victims of male violence confined to their aggressors; the lack of working conditions for work-life balance. Are we really “all in the same boat” in this crisis?

Faced with this harsh context, at Calala we value feminism that defends, demands and proposes solutions so that all people can fully enjoy their lives, in harmony with other people and nature.

“Viva mi feminismo” that sustains life even in the midst of a pandemic

Since the beginning of the pandemic, women's networks have been responding to the rise in of cases of gender-based violence. They have distributed food and basic necessities to help families who have lost their income. They have offered psychosocial and economic support. Calala is supporting these networks, and we strongly encourage you to help us support them.

Although the mood is not for celebrations, let us honour the feminist solidarity we experienced during the confinement. Neighbourhood support networks, shopping for vulnerable people, housing families who have lost their homes. Accompanying women who experience gender-based violence, jobs that allow for a real work-life balance, networks of friends, spending time alone. Even talking to your elderly and lonely neighbour on the balcony and promising each other that when everything passes you will eat rice together.

Fed up with virtuality, confinement or security measures, let us continue to claim with small, big daily actions that all people deserve lives worth living.

Make a donation. All proceeds will go towards funding women's groups in Central America and Spain.
