Seeing each other has been sage after over a year of online encounters.
It is impossible to evaluate this past year, and to dream ahead, without mentioning the pandemic, the confinement and the changes it brought to our lives. The situation also led us to increase care within the organisation. Among other measures, this meeting was salvia for us after overcoming more than a year of screens and online meetings. We have learned that we need skin, hands and gestures to feel part of the same space. Morning exercise, healthy food, rest spaces and collective enjoyment have been essential to devote all our energies to Calala's strategic thinking at this meeting.
To further elaborate our new Theory of Change, reflections and dreams revolved around two axes: what changes we want to see within the organisation and in the external context.
We dream of being a women's fund that...
- To the inside, be it an efficient, sustainable and intelligent organisation with a happy team where leadership is shared
- Externally, contribute to transforming the world in a place where we all have the power to decide on new lives and enjoy them with dignity. For us as a women's fund, this means giving donations to women's organisations and networks in Central America and Spain.
And for that, we need:
Internally:
- Work on process management and not by watertight areas, where the work of all is intertwined towards the same objectives and leadership is shared.
- Improving internal communication through the systematisation of information and the creation of protocols for information flow between the whole team.
- Take more care of the team, analysing workloads, defining roles and responsibilities, strengthening the capacities and autonomy of all to feel part of the same boat in which we are rowing together in the same direction.
- Strengthen the communication area and draw up the new Communication and Fundraising Plan. to get across how essential women's organisations are to achieving real equality, and thus to gain new alliances and forms of funding.
To the external:
- Public administrations to provide more flexible grants, adapted to the political realities of Central America and to more feminist and migrant women's organisations
- Private foundations and companies with corporate social responsibility in Spain more democratic, feminist and anti-racist, following trends at European level.
- Democracy and human rights organisations to ally themselves with women's funds
- Persons to understand the importance of the women's movement as a key actor for social change and to donate more and more to women's funds.
Ambitious objectives, in line with the historic moment we are living in.
Democracy and human rights are in the spotlight. Great advances are being made for the rights of women, LGTBI groups, migrants, domestic workers... thanks to social mobilisations. But, at the same time, this is provoking an increasingly violent response from people and organisations that want to impose hate speech and continue to profit from a world where the privileges of some are at the expense of the human rights of others. Let's transform the world together.
