Hello, future head of communications and fundraising. Before detailing your objectives, we would like to explain that Calala is a women's fund that works to strengthen women's organisations in Central America and Spain through donations, capacity building and networking. We are also part of national, European and international philanthropy networks.

Calala is currently made up of a team of 10 women from Latin America and Spain, distributed among three offices in Barcelona, Madrid and Bilbao. It is imperative that you know that we are in the process of introducing a decolonial perspective in the foundation, which will affect the communication strategy.

Finally, I would like to make it clear that You will work alongside a junior Communications Officer. who has been with the organisation for 3 years, and together with the Executive Director and the Director of Programmes.

To work with us we offer you a full working day of 37.5 hours and a salary of between 24.000€ and 30.000€ gross per year in 13 payments.

Description of tasks and activities

Strategy:

  • Contribute to the development of a Communication Strategy for the next 3 years, focused on the objective of mobilising funds.
  • Assist the Executive Director in the creation of a content strategy and relationship with Calala's audience, through its different communication channels.
  • Support the annual evaluation and updating of strategies.

Planning:

  • Contribute to the development of an Annual Plan and Budget to implement the priorities set by the Communication Strategy.
  • To keep the Foundation's editorial calendar up to date.
  • Contribute to the selection and introduction of salaried staff, volunteers or external consultants as needed.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning:

  • Collect, evaluate and present information on the impact of the foundation's communication activities.
  • Contribute to the Monitoring and Evaluation system of Calala's new Theory of Change.
  • Keep up to date on the achievements of the organisations we support in Spain and Central America.

Fundraising:

  • Contribute to the development of an Annual Fundraising Plan with public and private donors, with special emphasis on corporate and individual donors.
  • Design, organise and document activities to cultivate and maintain relationships with potential corporate donors.
  • Manage a strategy to increase the amount raised from individual donors.
  • Collect and develop information to help increase engagement with individual and corporate donors.
  • Keep up to date on Calala's obligations to its donors and on trends in Spain regarding corporate and individual donors.

External Communication:

  • Manage digital marketing activities, social media and publications that target Calala's audiences, including the development, publication and dissemination of content.
  • Plan and implement campaigns and events to raise awareness and advance the foundation's organisational objectives.
  • Disseminate effective messages to Calala's different audiences.
  • Support the foundation's spokespersons in preparing their speeches in front of the media, and act as spokesperson if necessary.
  • Researching and managing merchandising proposals and needs.

Institutional strengthening:

  • Support the design of guidelines, protocols, and systems to increase information sharing and collaboration within the foundation. Improve the quality of internal communication and help design communication-related processes.
  • Participate in planning meetings, team building and regular meetings with the whole Calala team.
  • Managing archiving and information management systems.
  • To support the training and learning process on communication of the technical team and the Board of Trustees of the foundation.
  • Provide communication support to Calala's technical team as needed, including editing, translation and publication of materials.
  • Supervise staff, volunteering and consultancies as needed.

Profile and requirements

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in strategic communications or public relations in a foundation, non-profit organisation, government institution, company, marketing agency or media agency.
  • Skills and knowledge in strategic communication and planning, digital marketing, social media, media relations, fundraising and donor relations, audience research, message and content development, design and monitoring, evaluation and learning.
  • Excellent ability to understand and execute small tasks and day-to-day projects.
  • Emotional intelligence and commitment to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Understanding and ability to manage sensitive issues, such as power dynamics and gender and racial inequalities.
  • Commitment to Calala's mission and role in mobilising resources for feminist movements.
  • Knowledge of women's rights, migrants' rights, sexual and reproductive rights, especially in Spain and Central America.
  • High level of spoken and written Spanish and English.
  • Knowledge of the work of women's funds and the philanthropy sector, both internationally and in Spain.
  • Other skills such as: analysing and solving problems, initiative and autonomy, optimism and enthusiasm, ability to lead initiatives, organisation and planning, technical and personal reliability, interpersonal communication and negotiation skills will be positively valued.
